Upper Big Wind @ Crowheart

UPPER BIG WIND @ CROWHEART

Upper Big Wind @ Crowheart – The Upper Big Wind River is in the heart of the Wind River Indian Reservation. Wind River Canyon Whitewater & Flyfishing is the exclusive permitted outfitter on the Upper Big Wind. We offer 5 different floats on sections of this river varying in length from 6 miles to 14 miles, depending on the time of year ; this is the freestone section of the Wind River, with unbelievable scenery and fishing to match, Brown, Cutthroat, Rainbow, Cutt-Bow, and Whitefish are all abundant in this stream; don’t forget to look up occasionally as the high plains desert is viewed to the North and East of the River, the towering Wind River Range is in the background to the South and West.

The early season (late June – Mid July is primarily streamer/nymph fishing) but as this amazing river continues to drop and clear the dry fly fishing begins to turn on. Mid to late July, is time to get out the big dry patterns, golden stones, no fly-mutant stones and all the usual suspects like caddis show up and the fish are prepared to feast. Once the ranchers along the river banks cut their hay crops the hoppers and other terrestrials make their way to the river and the fish are ready for them! Float through cottonwood forests, see elk, deer, water fowl, and focus on catching fish, all in a day on the Upper Big Wind River.
