A Step Back “In Time”

"For me, personally, there needs to be someplace left that's just a little bit different, that's a little bit like it used to be... especially in the quality of fish." - Darren Calhoun

Choose Your Adventure

Wind River Canyon Whitewater & Fly Fishing – Offering exclusive whitewater rafting trips and guided fly fishing trips in the Wind River Canyon, located on the Wind River Indian Reservation in west central Wyoming. Guided whitewater raft trip, or guided fly fishing trip, choose your adventure!

Wind River Canyon Whitewater & Fly Fishing has been floating this beautiful river for 33 years! Established in 1992, WRCW&F is a 100% American Indian owned business. They are the only commercial outfitter permitted by the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes to offer guided float trips in the Wind River Canyon.

The Wind River begins in the upper reaches of the eastern slope of Wyoming’s Wind River Range. A tiny creek well above an elevation of 10,000 feet, the Wind grows in volume and stature, winding its way south and east onto the Wind River Indian Reservation; as the river continues its journey far from its humble beginnings, it makes an abrupt turn to the north emptying into Boysen Reservoir, where it builds up a full head of steam then plunges into the Wind River Canyon just south of Thermopolis, WY. As the river winds its way through the canyon it transforms, creating incredible whitewater rapids, beautiful long riffles, smooth pools, and deep runs, all of which equals amazing habitat for unbelievably large trout. Upon leaving the Wind River Indian Reservation at the end of the canyon, the river enters the Big Horn Basin, and at the “Wedding of the Waters” the river changes names and the Big Horn River begins.

Wind River Canyon Whitewater & Fly Fishing is the exclusive outfitter permitted by the Shoshone and Arapaho Tribes: Schedule a trip with us and we will show you what makes the Wind River a special and unrivaled river.

Wind River Canyon
We fish the Wind River Canyon in two sections, the Upper Wind River Canyon and the Lower Wind River Canyon. It is an amazing tailwater fishery that is without a doubt some of the best wild brown trout fishing in the United States. There is some whitewater to deal with on this float, but that only adds to the excitement!

Big Horn River
A classic dry fly stream, flowing right through the town of Thermopolis. This stream has several long stretches of slow meandering water holding big fish that love to eat small dries, often rising in pods and are so prolific that a pod of fish in a deep run will actually be mistaken for a shallow riffle.

This river also has several beautiful nymph runs, and some very deep pools that hold some big fish.

Crowheart
This is one of the remaining few freestone streams in the west where you have a legitimate shot at some unbelievably large trout and will not see another boat! The upper Big Wind is in the heart of the Wind River Indian Reservation. We offer 5 separate sections of the Upper Wind varying in length from approximately 6 miles to as long as 14 miles.

Whitewater Rafting
Enjoy both the peaceful and calm beginning of this trip and the biggest longest rapid on the river! You are surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the upper Wind River Canyon at the launch site; then it’s time to get soaking wet! You will run exciting rapids such as 1st Damn Rapid, The Tunnels, Blackcoal, Sharpnose and Sphincter! You will definitely get drenched on this trip!
